Recognising The Importance of Tradespeople - National Tradesmen Day

Every third Friday in September, we celebrate National Tradesmen Day, a day that gives us a chance to recognise and celebrate the hardworking individuals who play an important role in keeping our homes, communities and infrastructure running smoothly and safely. Often working behind the scenes, these skilled individuals make a huge contribution to society, delivering essential services that we rely on daily.

The popular stereotype of a tradesman is someone who can be unreliable, expensive and untidy. However, this outdated image could not be further from the truth. The industry is highly competitive, which means that reliability, efficiency and quality are now more important than ever.

Tradespeople work in a range of industries, building our homes and offices and turning our cities and towns into practical and attractive environments. From education to transport, tradesmen ensure the continual maintenance and improvement of the systems and structures that form the backbone of our society.

Yet in our modern and digital world, more credit is too often given to desk and office jobs. It is easy to forget the level of skill, knowledge and experience that is required to master a craft in the way that tradespeople do. Their skill and commitment often goes unnoticed, and their importance can be undervalued - until something goes wrong and we rely on them more than ever.

The road to becoming a tradesperson is no easy feat. It necessitates more than just an ability to work with tools, with relevant training and qualifications becoming increasingly important. It’s a role that demands a unique blend of technical expertise, creativity, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to service.

Without these people, the world as we know it would grind to a halt. We are proud to work in partnership with a wonderful array of clients in the construction and manufacturing industries, many of whom employ or work alongside those in the skilled trades sector themselves. Next time you require a repair, renovation or installation, remember that you are not just employing a tradesperson, but enlisting the skills and expertise of someone who is dedicated to improving the environment that we live in.
